A Liberal, a Liar, or a Leader?

I've heard a number of media pundits suggest the Mike Huckabee is just splitting the Conservative vote, and should get out of the race so Mitt Romney has a better chance of beating John McCain. Nothing could be further from the truth, except perhaps Romney himself.

Mitt Romney and his campaign, are of course responsible for a massive onslaught of attack adds against Mike Huckabee that were a chain of misrepresentations and outright lies about Huckabee's record and positions. What rational person would move from the camp of an honest and courageous leader like Mike Huckabee to the camp of a liar and flip-flopper like Mitt Romney?

Yes, anyone paying attention knowns John McCain is at least to the left of Joe Lieberman, and has sometimes been to the left of (or at least in line with) Hillary Clinton. His Campaign Finance reform law (that is a violation of the First Amendment), his McCain-Kennedy Amnesty bill, and his new McCain-Lieberman "cap and trade" economic suppression bills are all unforgivable legislative sins. But no matter how liberal (and at least recently dishonest) John McCain is, that doesn't negate Mitt Romney's dishonesty or change Romney's (at least partially) liberal history on social issues.

If anything, Mitt Romney should drop out of the race in favor of the more conservative Mike Huckabee; but of course that's not going to happen. So why do these taking heads think Huckabee should, or would, for a moment entertain the idea that he should (or could) deliver voters up to a liar like Mitt Romney. Surely they know Romney's attacks on Huckabee's record are lies, because the majority of them are finally recognizing Huckabee as a real conservative.

Am I really suggesting that Romney should bow out? No, though I actually think McCain should, as should Ron Paul. Neither of them is by any means a reasonable representation of the core of the Republican party.

So what we're currently faced with is a choice between a liberal, a liar and a leader (and if you include Ron Paul, a near lunatic). Maybe the self-serving Fi-Cons (Fiscal-only Conservatives) would like our choices reduced to the lesser of two great evils. But how does one decide whether a liberal (who now lies) or a liar (who is somewhat liberal) is the lesser evil?

Fortunately, Mike Huckabee too much of an honest conservative leader to leave us to such a fate. As Governor of Arkansas for over 10 years, Huckabee has the most government leadership experience of any candidate; and he continues to lead by his continued principled positions, his powerful motivating oration, and his refusal to cave-in or "fight in the gutter" in this campaign.

So being a Georgia voter; on February 5th, I'll by-pass the liberal and the liar. I'm choosing the leader; Mike Huckabee!

I love what you shared here ... I couldn't have said it BETTER!

I'm going to pass this along to some of the voters I know in California, if that's okay.

Pam,
Thank you and please feel free to share the post (and web address) with anyone you can think of. Hopefully some of them will not only come to my blog, but contribute to Mike Huckabee through my Ranger widget, and more importantly VOTE FOR MIKE HUCKABEE!

Thanks again!

Great post. I agree 100%. Did you think up the term Fi-Cons? That's perfect for Rush, Hannity & FAUX news.

It really steams me that for years the GOP has taken "positions" on issues like abortion, marriage, gun ownership, but never had any principles or policies that would do anything about it.

Huckabee would. That gets my vote right there. Getting rid of the predatory and hopelessly complex Income Tax is just icing on the cake.

I personally believe it is the FairTax support that has galvanized the Fi-Cons against Huckabee. They have worked very hard to get preferential treatment for themselves into the current tax code. They are conservative only in the sense that they wish to preserve the status quo, not in the sense that they wish to free us of regulation.

Yes, I did think up "Fi-Cons" to describe Fiscal-only or Fiscal-first conservatives.

Fiscal-first being those, apparently like Rush Limbaugh, who may see defense and social conservatism as important; but refuse to accept someone else as a conservative unless that person has fiscal issues as their over-riding primary concern.

You may be right about at least the Fi-Cons inside the government hating the FairTax. One the the most "fair" things about the FairTax is that it removes the government's ability to control our behavior through tax exemptions.

I think it more likely that the Fi-Cons are attacking Huckabee because:
1)Although he is unquestionable a fiscal conservative, he is even more focused on Social conservatism
2)He is also so solid a Defense conservative that he recognizes the oft-ignored issue of American Sovereignty.

American Sovereignty is an issue that Fi-Cons want ignored because they place corporate control higher than national sovereignty. This is true even for otherwise solid defense conservatives like George W Bush and George HW Bush.

I don't think even more than "read my lips, no new taxes", the phrase that lost GHW Bush his re-election bid was "New World Order".

Mike Huckabee, like Ronald Reagan, believes that both National Sovereignty and our Moral fiber are foundational to our national security.
After all, Reagan based his certainty that we would win over the Soviets on the knowledge that they were an "evil empire", who upheld Atheism by matter of national policy.
Would we be any less evil, if we added to the slaughter of the unborn; an active suppression of Christianity through a combination of "hate speech" legislation, a government stamp of approval on Homosexuality, and the inevitable punitive litigation against American churches that would follow?

Non-Christians are in no danger of Mike Huckabee being a "Bible-thumper" in tho oval office. Rather he would simply help protect us from the "Bible-burners" waiting (not so silently) in the wings.

Awesome post - I especially love the title! I spent a good part of my day commenting on ABC blogs - trying my hardest to debunk this theory that a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain. It is frightening how so many people are easily swayed by media and campaign trickery - willing to get in lockstep with other mindless people and repeat these type of "buzz phrases". There are also so many commenting out there that the fact that Mike is a Christian turns them off. I ask them what they are afraid of...I, too, suspect they are expecting a biblical thump on the head. America needs to wake up and take a good look at our man Huckabee! This race is FAR from over...Mike is in this to WIN...and he's already won the hearts and votes or many whose voices will be heard on Super Tuesday! www.twocabgab.blogspot.com

McCain, Huckabee Worst Picks for Evangelicals

MEDIA ADVISORY, Feb. 4 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Reverend Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK), in his capacity as a private citizen, today released this statement regarding tomorrow's primary votes:

"I have spent the last 33 years as an active evangelical Christian. I am an ordained evangelical minister. I graduated from an evangelical Bible college and an evangelical seminary. I serve on the board of America's oldest association of evangelical church leaders, and I head one of the most active evangelical ministries in Washington, DC.

"I have thought long and hard about the upcoming elections. I have prayed earnestly about them, and I have met many of the candidates and their top campaign people and I have studied their platforms and policy proposals.

"After careful and prayerful consideration, I have concluded that an evangelical vote for Mike Huckabee is a vote for John McCain, and a vote for John McCain will be a disaster for this country.

"Let me explain. It's clear to me and many others that Mike Huckabee is not broadening his appeal enough to win the primary. Therefore, his only contribution is to siphon off votes, giving McCain a clear path to victory. It's very possible Huckabee is being positioned to be John McCain's pick for vice president. In order to win, McCain needs Mike Huckabee and the evangelical votes he brings with him. The specter of a McCain-Huckabee ticket is bad for evangelicals.

"McCain is proud of his signature accomplishment, the McCain-Feingold law co-authored with liberal Democrat senator Russ Feingold. McCain-Feingold severely limits the First Amendment rights of evangelicals. McCain will use this law as the litmus test for his Supreme Court nominees. If a judge is likely to be against McCain's unconstitutional law, McCain will not nominate him. Make no mistake about it, constitutional originalist judges will be against McCain-Feingold. These same judges will also be pro-life, for traditional marriage and for the public acknowledgment of God.

"Only liberal judges will support McCain-Feingold. They will also be pro-abortion, anti-traditional marriage and against the public acknowledgement of God. So, with a McCain-Huckabee administration, or with a McCain-anyone administration, we get the wrong judges. Most distressing, we get the wrong justices on the U.S. Supreme Court."Evangelicals must consider both the stakes and the realities in this election. Mike Huckabee's continuation only helps John McCain. The consequences are just too great to take this risk. A McCain victory will hurt this country because of the long-term damage of the wrong judges and justices. Worse, McCain's court legacy will continue to hurt our children and our grandchildren, perhaps even our great grandchildren.

"Evangelicals must choose wisely from among candidates other than Mike Huckabee and John McCain as they vote tomorrow, February 5.

"For identification purposes only, the Reverend Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK) is president of Faith and Action in the Nation's Capital, chairman of the Committee on Church and Society for the Evangelical Church Alliance and co-founder of the annual National Memorial for the Pre-born and their Mothers and Fathers, the only pro-life worship service held inside the U.S. Capitol complex in Washington, DC.

It’s time to Rally to Romney so we can block McCain!

I think it should be obvious that "Fleeting Thoughts" is just one of those pro-Romney shills; who goes about posting their talking-points articles anyplace they can.

I thought of suppressing those comments because it's so painfully obvious, but decided to leave them to show that if the Romney trolls have come down to posting their attacks at my poor little blog, THEY MUST BE DESPERATE!

If you wish to leave comments disagreeing with my point of view, that's fine... but please leave YOUR OWN comments, NOT copying an article; and please no profanity or personal attacks.

Not desperate my friend. I have heard so many people say they wouldn't vote for Romney because his definition of Jesus includes them. I thought the Reverends comments were very applicable.

Looks like there is collusion between McCain and Huckabee. A vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain. Good bye conservative judges, VP doesn't get a say.

Former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer conceded defeat for Sen. John McCain at West Virginia's Republican state convention on Tuesday.

Roemer, who represented McCain at the Charleston event, asked McCain boosters to support Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on the second ballot in order to block former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
